About chris

Chris Bair is a computer geek and SalesForce.com system administrator for his "day job". He became involved in the powdered foods (aka "soylent") movement in January 2014, originally with a conventional recipe and later switching to a high fat, low carb "ketogenic" variant on October 2014. In January 2015 he created the recipe for Keto Chow and released it without restriction for anyone to use, at the same time he began mixing the recipe up for people that wanted a finished product and has seen steady growth in the business every month since. Conversely since starting Keto, he has added 6 new holes to his belt and recently bought a far smaller belt. He has also eaten far more bacon and cheese than in all his previous years combined trying to avoid fat but still slowly gaining weight. Chris has lived in Utah for most of his life, except for a few years living in Chile where he learned Castillian. Chris and his wife have two sets of twins with a couple singltons thrown in for good measure.

Interview I did about Keto Chow and Ketosis

This entry is part 113 of 139 in the series Ketogenic Soylent

I linked this in another post but didn’t want it to get lost in the shuffle, so it’s getting its own post! Check out the interview at http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/pellissier20160105

The interview was done via email, which was nice since it gave me time to think well about my answers and re-read them. My responses were largely completely unaltered, just some minor tense changes so it would fit an interview style. I should have added more hyperlinks =)

Day 003 – 100 days of Keto (Chow)

This entry is part 4 of 81 in the series 100 days of keto
  • Weight: 208.9
  • Blood ketones: 0.4 mmol/L

Water weight is so fun, up and down daily. I’m not too concerned, my blood ketones are still going up. I ended up drinking three blender bottles of banana (keto chow) mixed with chocolate (keto chow) yesterday. Ran on the treadmill again and the heart rate monitor was still acting up. The contacts kept not working or something so it only recorded my actual heart rate half of the time. It was pretty funny though, I had 3 phones on the “magazine” section:

  • Galaxy S3 running a video that controls the treadmill via an audio cable (I used Camtasia to record the screen of  i2Workout so I could have a nice portable video file)
  • Galaxy S5 that was trying to track heart rate
  • Nexus 6P that was playing video (Limitless Season 1, Episode 8 in case you’re wondering)

Day 002 – 100 days of Keto (Chow)

This entry is part 3 of 81 in the series 100 days of keto
  • Weight: 208.5
  • Blood ketones: 0.3 mmol/L

Blood ketones are increasing and hey hey, I’ve only got 10lbs to go before I’m back down to what I was in September. I didn’t overtly eat anything carby Thanksgiving through New Years, I was actually pretty good during the holidays but I think too much sugar alcohols (specifically malitol) got to me. I’m not eating any of that now so everything should work out well. I ran on the treadmill last night but the heart rate monitor was being sketchy so I don’t have anything quantitative to show for it (no pretty graphs or data). I’ll see if I can get it happy tonight.

An interview I did was published at http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/pellissier20160105 this morning.

Day 001 – 100 days of Keto (Chow)

  • Weight: 209.0
  • Blood ketones: 0.1 mmol/L

Well, yesterday was the first day of “100 days of keto“. I have a batch of chocolate+banana and another batch of chocolate peanut butter keto chow in the fridge that are all mixed up, I ended up with 3 peanut butter ones for the day. I started tracking my eating again, using Cron-o-meter this time around since it shows net carbs. I’m doing a blood ketone test every morning along with trying out a breath acetone analyzer. I bought it a few months ago but have gotten pretty inconsistent results. I’ll check to see if there’s any significant correlation between blood ketones and breath acetone.

KetoChow Sub-Reddit plus a video

This entry is part 112 of 139 in the series Ketogenic Soylent

A couple days ago somebody suggested that I create the /r/ketochow subreddit. Soudned like a good idea, so I did it. The community is pretty small still but larger than I thought it would be since I hadn’t linked it anywhere yet. So without further ado: https://www.reddit.com/r/ketochow/

Also I re-shot a video of mixing a batch of Chocolate Peanut Butter Keto Chow. And I started a Frequently Asked Questions section.

And a reminder: the 100 days of keto starts January 4!

Hit the big time (not really)

There’s a subreddit called /r/subredditsimulator where automated reddit robots can go around and “play”, generating random posts based on probability. Regular users can’t even post there. Yesterday I hit the big time because /u/keto_ss decided to tag me in a post

I am a bit more willpower than average, so when I ordered the sampler, /u/chrisbair told me to stop drinking water, from nausea to headaches to lethargy.

Don’t know why I would have done that =) Then again, I don’t think robots should drink water so I suppose it’s accurate. The bot has posted other fun stuff like

You have to take a new picture. I’ve tried them all and then reheat them in the oven for a minute or 2 and then gained back 100 lb. It’s easy to make with a food scale, so I am going for.

Ok!

Fun Keto Chow stuff

This entry is part 110 of 139 in the series Ketogenic Soylent

Couch Potatoes (who made the “Fat bomb Cheesecake” recipe I did for thanksgiving) just did a video review of Keto Chow. They pronounced it “Definitely not bad” – which is about the same endorsement I got from an 11 year old.

In other news, I’m planning on trying the “Keto Chow pancakes” recipe another user posted on reddit. Good times.

100 days of Keto – starting January 4

This entry is part 2 of 81 in the series 100 days of keto

This was cross-posted to /r/keto earlier this week and I’ve decided I’m going to do it, mostly just for kicks (I haven’t done a “cheat day” since January 2015) but also to get losing weight more better-er. I’m planning on doing a post every day, both here and on /r/100DaysofKeto (in the daily post). Anybody want to join in? There’s more info in the side-bar of https://www.reddit.com/r/100DaysofKeto and the form to sign up is here.

My Graduation Pants are WAY too big

This entry is part 109 of 139 in the series Ketogenic Soylent

I was going through my closet last night and an old pair of pants fell out. They’re the Guess jeans I wore the last day of High School – way back in June 1995. Guys signed my year book, girls wrote on the pants. Yes I know, not the best idea. We’re all stupid in retrospect and I really need to throw them away now that they’ve apparently served their purpose (and before my kids read some of the stuff written on them).

Anyhow, I hadn’t looked at them in years and was surprised to find what size they were: 38. I must have carried the weight differently back then because I’m fairly certain I weighed about 220 at the time and 38 is the size pants I was wearing last year when I weighed 250. Decided I might as well try them on one last time and do a “bathroom mirror selfie”

Graduation Pants

Yep. WAY too big! I’m currently wearing 34 and even those are starting to get big. I doubt I’ll ever get to 30 but you never know.
